Bernard Namugowa, 15 years

Benard is a 15-year-old boy who grew up in Bubwa. He's lived there all his life and is the oldest child we've talked to. Ajabu sees him as someone who could become a leader. Benard's mom, Harriet Hakassa, has six kids. He's the third child, but his dad left the village, and no one knows where he is.

Benard really enjoys learning and reading. He's determined to finish school so he can support his family and help his community. His mom has big dreams for him. He dreams of becoming a teacher to improve education in his village.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Benard hasn't been able to go back to school because they can't afford the fees. Sometimes, he misses school to help his mom with farming, so they have enough food and money for essentials.
